turns out this found beer isn't good!

why would you make a tart cherry thing that isn't a gose? this just tastes like robitussen. perrin does some good brews but brother this ain't the way.

Heading home from Sour Friends Fest at Cellador. Almost everything I had was fantastic, but man, five hours of sours and I kinda feel like dying.

Did a 4-way blind taste test of 3 national and 1 local American pilsners tonight. My gf's dad and I did the tasting

These beers:

-Firestone Pivo
-Founders PC
-Victory Prima
-Smog City Little Bo

I liked the Prima best, Pivo second, PC third, Little Bo fourth. He liked the Pivo best, then Little Bo, PC, and Prima.

Overall I felt like the Pivo was maltiest and most balanced, but I liked the refreshing crispness of the Prima. Really illuminating taste test and crazy how different four beers of the same style can be.

Last time I had a prima i felt like it was super over the hill. Just figured by the time a prima sixer moves on a shelf in LA it is pretty old and probably has been stored warm at one or two points along the way. Nothing like what I remember that beer to be 8 years ago when I lived on the east coast. But maybe my taste in pilsners has just changed and I didn't like it as much now as I remember.

I would have suspected pivo to be the most hoppy of those, not the most malty and balanced.

Now i want to do a similar thing.

it would be kind of fun if we picked four nationally available beers of the same style and blind taste tested them the same week or something and gave them a hipinion QBT ranking.

Has Eddie PIls been talked about in this thread? Because I love Eddie Pils.

I've had way too many awesome beers lately due to LA Beer Week, I'm in dire need of a break.

I didn't go to the kickoff but I went to a few events around town, like the NorCal tap takeover at HPB since I hadn't tried anything from HenHouse, and Sour Friends Fest at Cellador.

Main complaint about the Cellador event is they reeeeeally needed some more options that weren't sours, because after awhile there's absolutely no way to avoid acid reflux, and it killed my palate. Some incredibly good beers though. I've been particularly digging the beers from Horus I've tried recently.

Favorites were:

Cellador Entropic
Homage L'Anglais Bleu
Sour Cellars Pie Pusher
Dionysus Guava Paradise
Horus NectaMelorine

Another nice thing about LA Beer Week is there's a lot of really good stuff still around town left over, so if you missed out you'll still be able to find some really solid beers pretty much everywhere.

Cycle is releasing a rum barrel aged version of one of my favorite beers right now (DBR). did not have time to make it across the bridge to pick it up, but thankfully they've taken a lot of steps to flood the market and release bigger batches to kill the aftermarket.

Planning on getting there tomorrow and excited to see how this batch turned out.

Also having a housewarming party on saturday where I am giving a marshall zhukov as a party gift to everyone who shows up because I need to get them the fuck out of my house.

DWB, did you pick up any Goodie PIls from Highland Park? If you haven't yet you should swing by and grab a glass of Goodie Barrel, their barrel fermented version. Pretty solid.

We had the Threes Brewing People Power pilsner they did the for ACLU. Was solid. Did anyone else have a People Power beer yet? Seems like a cool idea (lots of.breweries commit to brewing a beer that name, share proceeds with ACLU)
