some magnolia-scale ensemble casting right here:

Indiewire wrote:The film (backed by Warner Bros, making it his first true-blue studio picture) sees him reunite with Joaquin Phoenix for the lead role, with a ridiculously stacked supporting roster on board so far, with Owen Wilson, Reese Witherspoon, Benicio Del Toro, Martin Short, Jena Malone and Kevin J. O'Connor all signed on. And now, word's arrived that perhaps the biggest name so far has come on board, with Cigarettes and Red Vines reporting that Sean Penn is circling the project.

he'll probably play it closer to the novel this time, but i'm kind of hoping this ends up an adaptation the way "there will be blood" was an adaptation

honestly has Sean Penn ever been terrible in a movie?

maybe Gamgster Squad, even still, he was having fun with that shit.

No issue with Sean Penn having some part in this, I guess.

Are we to believe del Toro is Bigfoot?

an actor of any stripe is clay in pta's hands; leave your misgivings about casting by the riverside

i think del toro could play a good bigfoot, but i imagined him looking more like a fatter version of hank from breaking bad

The cast + director seem really promising, especially since I imagine this'd be a return to Anderson's style pre-There Will Be Blood. The book isn't all that good, though.

he was stronger, richer and more believable in Billy Madison, and Happy Gilmore had a better script.
