can anyone recc more channels like summoning salt (world record progression), game sack et al - metal jesus is ok i guess

this guy's channel where he just turns on an off layers in an emulator or noclips could be ok if he didn't have such an annoying stock youtuber voiceover quality:

SNESdrunk is really good. His voice work is kinda bad, sounding like bored and sarcastic but it's just how his voice is because he actually does pretty good and interesting reviews.

Super Derek RPGs is great if you don't mind how sincere he gets. Really good game selections and he goes in pretty depth and it has a nostalgic tinge (Like he talks about how Terranigma almost makes him cry....)

PushingUpRoses is great for computer games. She's really great and pretty funny

ProJared is good if you can get over how youtube-y and weird looking he is. He doesn't update as much anymore but he's got a big backlog

Jeremy Parish does game by game reviews of the SNES and Gameboy libraries that are pretty in depth and good. He's from Retronauts too

I can't really recommend CygnusDestroyer, he's really weird looking and sweaty and his voice is terrible but he does reviews of bad games in an interesting way and usually tries to defend them which is interesting if you can get past how awkward it is to watch him.

I don't actually really like his videos as much anymore but Derek Alexander/Stop Skeletons From Fighting/Happy Video Game Nerd has a pretty big backlog. I kind of hate the way he talks (really salesmany and like rushes through it and it just seems really corny) but I used to like him back in the day

I really hope these guys don't google their names and find these unflattering descriptions

Yeah Jeremy Parish is one of the best video game writers bar none, I really trust his reviews of games and he's the one who turned me on to the Etrian Odyssey series.

The only thing wrong with his videos is he does them game by game so if it's a boring game then you're out an interesting video for the week, but that's not his fault

Is there like a really popular and trustworthy gametrading forum or place? I have Flintstones: Surprise at Dino Peak which is worth like a thousand bucks, but I'd trade it to someone for like a list of games like:

Gargoyle's Quest II
Megaman 4
Felix the Cat
Castlevania 1+3

Just to keep money out of it and maybe give somebody a good deal

I took Bobble's idea that famicom carts are pretty much cassette tape sized and bought a case for my famicom games:

The Aeon Genesis guy said recently ish that he's made real progress on translationg the SNES game Shin Megami Tensei If... which was basically a remake of (I think?) the 2nd game but set in high school annnnnnd RELATIONSHIP BUILDING so it's basically the prototype Persona game on the SNES. I'm hype about that one coming out eventually

Was gonna post this in video game club thread but then remembered there was a retro gaming thread and it was more suited to it.

that gaming club thread has got me to want to play again some nes games from my youth and i ended up on a site with in browser emulator and after a few shit games spotted Desert Commander which is the first wargame i ever played, in fact i didn't know they existed before then, and so i started it thinking this extremely simplistic wargame wouldnt keep me occupied for more than 10 mins but i was at it like an hour.

It's limited, and in fact there are things i took for granted that didnt work in this game (like that you can't just have a unit go past an enemy unit, if you get next to it you have to either fight it or end this unit's turn) which made it much harder than it should have been but anyway, i won that first map but barely and had fun doing it. I really loved this game back then. Rented it a handful of times. Too bad there's like five maps... you could play against a friend though and you can choose the amount of units and what type you and the npc starts with so if you like a challenge you can give yourself a handicap.

This was too at the time a perfect introduction to the concept and basics of wargames. I would say it still is, a child of 7 could get it. You've got rock paper scissor units dynamics, you can re-supply, you have to make the most of your movements. Kinda to vg wargames what Risk is to board wargames.

I'm playing through Earthbound for the first time. Needless to say, I love it.
I named all my characters after the Beastie Boys and surrounding lore. Prince Poo is MCA, which happened by chance, which I'm reading as serendipitous.

just popping in to echo the Jeremy Parish and supergreatfriend praise. both great dudes.

and i don't think I've ever heard either of them swear, which is refreshing. i'm not a prude but so much internet stuff i enjoy is overflowing with swears/pottymouths and it's nice to have their soothing voices be cuss-free.

Personal best (and house high at the arcade) of 65,810 at Pole Position tonight!

According to Twin Galaxies it’s the 11th highest ever, but I know Cameron Feltner and John McAllister have since scored 65,860 and 66,010 respectively, so it’s more accurate that I’m now #13 all time (out of over 500+ scores submitted). It’s believed that 67,310 represents a completely perfect score. No one has officially scored over 66,510 since 1984.
