they weren't even supposed to tour at all this year, i think in january phil said they were gonna "hang up their radioheads" in 2018 and all work on solo stuff, but then this tour happened quite randomly

i have a feeling if you want to see them you should do it now, it might be a while til they do it again

Yeah, I honestly don't expect to ever see radiohead come to chicago again so I made sure I didn't miss them this time around. The hope is they have at least one more album and tour in them but you never know!

apparently there are 75+ people already in a GA line outside MSG. at 10:43AM. don't these people work?

i ask myself that a lot in nyc. like whenever you see photos of everyone lounging on a lawn on a summer weekday when the weather is perfect i always wonder if they all called in sick to work or just dont have to

not everyone is 9-5

but if it's nyc then probably a lot of those don't really need to work

This is super common practice in the Phish community. If they are playing multiple nights at the Garden (like last summer, they played 13), folks would leave the show and then immediately just sort of camp outside the entrance until doors the next night. Much respect to the rail riders.

i've basically resigned myself to being the last person into general admission at madison square garden since i won't be in the city until late in the day, but does anyone have any experience with GA at MSG? is it going to be miserable? gimme those tips.

At the Chicago show the floor was about 3/4 full and people could maneuver easily. You could show up after the set starts and get a decent spot. Its just the 100 or so nutjobs getting there 10 hours early to get at the very very front

lol. great thank you that is wonderful to know. i was anxious about being in line and not being able to swing by the merch table before the show but it sounds like that won't be an issue.

yeah I was shocked by how roomy the GA was in Chicago. People seemed pretty not shitheaded about space/shoving their way to the front surprisingly
thanks

They did blow out on Friday, a song they've played 3 times in 25 years so you never know!

Blow Out rules though

it's easily the second best song on pablo, but i admit there is something charming about Stop Whispering

i've seen the head live a few times, but somehow i've never seen them play airbag. which is crazy, because at this point i think it's their best song. they better play it in philly!

i probably won't see them this run around but the MSG general admission tickets are marked "east" and "west" designating which side of the floor you're supposed to be on...

*but* i think it's more of a guideline than an official designation, and if you're there early enough you can get next to the stage even if your ticket says otherwise? but i never tested this out when i went in 2016, so i was near the sound booth. in retrospect i felt like a chump, but if this corresponds to your situation wintergreen test it out and report back. but most importantly, have fun! ;)

i did see a seating chart that had GA east and GA west, but not on MSG's or ticketmaster's sites, so it's not clear if that will apply. the section on the printed tickets i got from waste says WEST2, so i guess i'm good either way (west is closer to the stage.)

i do see this on the MSG website (specifically on the listing for radiohead), fyi:

Are you a GA TICKET HOLDER? If so, you must enter via Chase C entrance located at the corner of 33rd Street near 8th Avenue.

heads-up they're dropping good tickets on ticketmaster. I went on just to check what was available at 5:45pm and got 8th row section 108. a few rows behind Maya Rudolph and PTA lol.

they were fantastic tonight. if you're on the fence, go. crowd was so into it, best tracks were "The Tourist," "Morning Bell" into "Optimistic," "Let Down," ended with "The Bends."

that was fucking great. I got to MSG around 5:30 and got a pretty much perfect spot 4-5 people back from the front, I wouldn't want to be any closer tbh

i don't think i've ever seen thom happier in the 5 or so times i've seen them. he was joking around and being silly the entire time, it was so great. he literally jumped and did a guitar leg kick in the air during the bends

he did this super enthusiastic waving thing during the "cheering and waving" lyric in myxomatosis, it was hilarious

also before the tourist thom and jonny pantomimed taking each other's photograph and I was like wtf? and then they played the Tourist and it clicked, i wonder if they've always done taht

during weird fishes there was this one point when the song slowed down and I could hear all the ppl in the GA area gently singing "weeird fiishess" and it kinda made me laugh, what a strange thing for a bucnch of people to be emoting. weird fishes

they seemd to have remixed the gloaming, it was interesting but i like the previous higher energy live arrangement better

the surprise of the night for me was LOTUS FLOWER. i LOVE the changes they made to that song. you physically feel the bass so much when it starts and the lights were worked perfectly. what a fun song, it killed. bodysnatchers too

also speaking of lights, i know they've always done trippy lights for the guitar freakout of paranoid android but they really stepped with this tour. it took me to the same place that the ending of speed racer took me, like epileptic nirvana

i know the crowd always cheers at the no surprises "bring down the govt / they don't speak for us" part but obv it's more relevant these days and it felt really cathartic to have the whole entire MSG stadium cheering at that line

i think those are all my stray thoughts. relly fun night. i met a lot of cool people. i am gonna try and go again this week. damn my back hurts though from standing 7 hours...maybe i wont get GA again..
