would be into hearing about good balm roms as opposed to romcoms. stuff like Dear John, The Vow, The Lucky One. there can (of course not always) be something very smug about romcoms which you don't get so much with the plain roms
no buddy not really

is there any romcom that features normal people with normal jobs (or no jobs) that don't look ridiculously pretty and that isn't cute? Probably not. I guess first of all im basically asking for just romance without the comedy.

perhaps shaun of the dead meets your requirements.

anything with simon pegg (that cost less than $100M to make) is balm for me.

these movies are best when at least one half of the couple is a fuck up.

run fatboy run, i love you man.

i don't really believe in "balm action movies" tbh, always felt there's a reason the main balm thread is 92% rom coms. if there is such a thing as "balm action" then it's just a bunch of movies we grew up with and rewatched at least a dozen times since then, almost entirely nostalgia-driven and very rarely content-driven. and when it is somewhat content-driven there's usually a certain rom com element to it (you've already mentioned Speed, Die Hard, True Lies etc). finally, it seems impossible to categorize a modern action movie as "balm" straight away, which tells you all you need to know. i'll make an exception for franchises, i suppose, because watching the latest Mission: Impossible or Fast & Furious might hit that spot straight away as it's the same characters you've been watching for years. although i hear BlackSugar has been peacefully falling asleep to Olympus Has Fallen since day 1, so there might be a fee exceptions
