hmm

The first film you saw that you realize you could be a filmmaker.

Hmm, it was a probably a bad movie. “Oh, I can do at least that.” But in terms of great movies, maybe some nineties indie films like Nicole Hoelfencer‘s “Walking and Talking.” My dad took me to see that when I was a young teen because of a “Siskel and Ebert” review. I remember feeling that this was a real person telling this story in a personal and genuine way and that she also liked video stores and Yo La Tengo. Maybe there is a place for me here in this world that I could be a part of too.

I’d like to make a casual post in favor of Set it Up. Though I’m typically in agreement with boarders mellowgold and delgriffith, I found it to have a pretty smart script despite its somewhat regressive Hallmark plot. Things like the “over dick around” and that pizza scene reminded me of like You’re the Worst or some other zeitgeist comedy shit that put actual joke writing into the most sanitized format ever.

Which technically for me is balm. A very expected standard narrative partnered with an actual voice

Set It Up is fine. pretty much the absolute best we can hope for from Netflix doing a mid-budget 90s-ish rom com

agreed on both. also it looks like we're getting a new Holofcener soon, with Ben Mendelsohn, Connie Britton and Edie Falco.. and it's a Netflix production

For sure - maybe it's because it's a new film from a master of the form, so you feel like you're in good hands throughout, yet it's still a new script as opposed to watching the last boy scout again.

The Fast and the Furious movies are absolutely balm too IMO, especially with the focus on family and friendship, and the soothing hum of the engines.
