I would love nothing more than to be able to walk across the street every morning, go into Prospect Park, spend the day emptying the full garbage cans and putting in empty bags, and then walk back home where I would shower and get faded. I don't think I could afford my rent if I did that tho.

I miss my park maintenance summer job where I spent half the time lying under a tree next to a weedwhacker, smoking cigarettes and reading Nabokov short stories

there was someone, i think sobieski (?), that mentioned being a burnout stoner oyster farmer. those aren't exactly plants but they behave somewhat like plants.

I have a friend who works in the parks department for Santa Cruz county, if you feel like moving to SC and starting from the bottom I could see if there are any gigs

You could learn a trade. My friend is almost done with a plumbing apprenticeship and I'm envious of how much time he gets to spend looking at house guts instead of email guts.

Or, according to the BLS, the country is gonna need a bunch of new solar photovoltaic installers and wind turbine service technicians between now and 2026 https://www.bls.gov/ooh/fastest-growing.htm

Working in a nursery is great. I spent 8 hours a day walking around with a hose and filling bags with dirt.

maybe not a ranger, but some sort of parks job might be a good fit. i've really liked all of the folks i've encountered who help maintain and advocate for city and county parks

just beware that warehouse bros tend toward misogyny, racism, etc.

An acquaintance I knew in high school that made skramz music now works at an Armstrong Gardening Center. This thread reminded me I should apply to a job there. Thanks for this.

My buddy worked for the parks department outside of Aspen in the summers and then would just be a ski lift operator in the winters. Seemed like the best thing ever.
