I like almost every Depeche Mode song I heard but never felt the pull to check their full albums.

you can find early omd real cheap (like 4-5 euros), they were super popular back in the day and apparently they're not as appreciated by the hipster record diggers as other bands like new order or DM

They have about 5 stone cold classic songs but the rest leaves me cold. Think they'd be killer live (provided they played those 5 ofc)

Was just listening to halo. Prob the best song on an album with only good to great tracks (well i don't know, blue dress is meh)

God this record is so good. Its probably half nostalgia but everything on this record feels extremely deliberate and thought out. Considering how little guitar is actually on this album I've always considered it to contain some of my favorite guitar sounds. I guess after listening to it hundreds of times in high school I never really cared to throw on the record very much after picking up an LP copy how ever many years later. I could see it being off putting for some people that this record is def very dramatic and overwrought but thats just the MODE yo

Holy shit, I had that copy of Fan Club with the scandalous Madonna pic. The first issue I ever bought had Mitsou on the cover and came with a free sticker. There was a Pen Pal section in the back of the magazine, which I submitted an ad to…. mortifying to think of now... but I did get some responses and corresponded with a few people for a couple of years.

Well that's not a response i expected on this forum like at all.

Yeah i think i bought it for...i don't know how long, was probably short overall. Probably not two years. I don't remember my first issue. It would have probably been late 1989 or early 1990 and i was into erm...NKOTB and Debbie Gibson. :? Well i was 11 also. I didn't start listening to decent music until age 13-14 at least. It's too bad i started buying it so late because by 1990 nobody cared enough about Debbie gibson anymore to have posters (well one page pics) of her i could have hung in my room. I hung posters of pretty much any other shitty pop artist they featured though. Even some i barely even was aware of. If it was a somewhat attractive woman definitely it was going on my wall because i was at that stupid age. Though i wanna say i didn't hang that madonna pic...my parents probably would have shrugged about it but... I just kept it for those "special occasions"

This sounds so much like me, except for the jerking off part: I think I wanted to be Madonna more than I wanted to do her  . I didn’t know Fan Club was published in both French and English; I wonder if the content was the same in both languages. After doing some research, it looks like the magazine was based in Quebec; I do remember them giving substantial coverage to francophone acts in the 'English edition' (I grew up in Western Canada) . I don’t know which year FC stopped publishing, but I had probably moved on to "cooler" magazines like Spin and Rolling Stone by then and started listening to better music.

I have to say I do love how shamelessly DM pandered to their gay audience in the early days:

theres a joke in venture brothers with a character being in disbelief that DM (as a whole) are not gay and i have to say when i learned NOBODY in the band was i had that reaction too. i thought how is that even possible? I mean their mid to late 80's aesthetics it's like at the very least martin gore!?

Possibly gayest hetero band ever.

And ok i didn't realise until now Fan club was ALSO published in english.

junk culture is a misstep but you can't go wrong with architecture & morality. if you want next steps, look to Dazzle Ships for weird, fractured experimental synth-pop, and Organisation for moody, overcast Factory-style synth jams
