not really digging this

Obviously i can't speak of what the new one will be like just based on this, but I think its very possible this will be a two records band for me. Like i can't see them not keeping on doinb what they know how to do and well, while i warmed up to the second record in time, it wasn't as strong as the first and i think like many bands that have one defined sound and lack range, this will in the long run burn them out to my ears. But who knows what's ahead in the future.

The first record was Kid Artillery's favorite for about nine months. I still can't quite specify what makes that album so much better than the second one, but aside from 2-3 songs, the second one would just wash over me with very little impression.

the second one was trying for the charts a little more i felt. Not that they weren't a pop band already but i felt it went for a more...crowd pleasing sound. I don't know how to explain it better but yeah.

I didn't like it much at all at first but i warmed up to it and now i like it a bunch but it still can't touch the first which is for real probably still my top record of the 10's. Not that that's saying much i suppose considering there's probably 5 records i like released since 2010. But still it affected in ways records seldom have past my teens or early 20s. Timing was probably responsible for a lot of that too though.

Anyway I started writing/recording again because of that record, not that i even do electronic music, it just inspired me to get off my ass and do something. And i did for like a year non stop. Until again i realised it was all pointless.

i will say mu's gross obsession with the lead singer of this band, and the torrent of misogyny that she must experience whenever she says/does anything online is fucking heinous and bums me out a lot.

still can't stand the band tho!

She is pals with some of my friends and the shit she has to deal with is horrifying. She has multiple stalkers who try and cosy up to various people around glasgow to find out where she is going to be and buy her gifts from artists to try and get her address. Its terrifying.

New track isn't as good. I basically don't like it when she's not singing, and I'm not really a fan of The National, so whatever. Her parts are good though.

seems like the chvrches palette is starting to become slightly limited (the chord progressions/tempos, vocal melodies/phrasing, bridge that drops out and fades back in, outro that gradually strips out instruments - these are some of their staples)
not that that's a bad thing, i like their sound and another album will be cool, these first two singles just haven't really pushed in any particular direction
