what are your feelings on spirals

how does the board feel about spirals? are they good? are they bad?

Image

imo, they are pretty good.

Image

of course you can see some pretty crazy variations like this, which i guess are spirals too

Image

if you've got the math and the theory, feel free to bring it to the thread. otherwise just consider the shape itself.

no hypnosis please just spiral talk

sometimes you'll see gifs of spirals. i don't think that's really necessary to truly appreciate the shape. the image of a (stationary) spiral looks like it's moving, that's where the magic is

apparently, in math, spirals start at the center and move out. i think i would start drawing one from the outside (like a complete fool apparently)

i participated in some weird hippy spiritual ritual when i was a kid called "dance the mystic spiral", where we did exactly that around a spiral drawn on the ground (i think it probably incorporated gems and crystals in some way as well). the music was a song being sung by a hippy lady that included the lyrics "dance the mystic spiral" multiple times

i don't think i got much out of it, but then again i'm a big fan of spirals generally and it's a vivid memory so who knows?

wayne shorter (sax god) once said that when coltrane played it was like "starting a sentence in the middle, and then going to the beginning and the end of it at the same time ... both directions at once."

can sound be spirals?

wayne shorter wasn't talking about spirals necessarily but i'd say a spiral goes both directions at the same time

"harmonic spirals" could be way to describe coltrane's playing, to riff off of shorter's description

i could be wrong
